Why use Last Stand in Black Ops?

This perk makes no sense...the only purpose it really serves is maybe to kill the person who put you in last stand. Other than that you just lay on your back with a pistol until you die...when you could've just died immediately, re-spawned, and been on the move with your primary weapon. I know you can get revived by your teammates...but realistically that hardly ever happens. I just don't understand why so many people love helplessly laying on their backs with a pistol...
