Why are we all of a sudden getting Melanoma and Skin Cancers?

Just a simple question.. i don't really know the facts of why. We have been on the planet forever and now all of a sudden we are getting an epidemic of skin cancers we never had before and its all thanks to our sun that keeps us alive in the first place. Help me please??
